Yunque de Baracoa, part of Cuchillas del Toa Biosphere Preserve

El Yunque of Baracoa is a smoothed tableland situated between the banks of the rivers Duaba and Toa, it is part of the Cuchillas del Toa Biosphere Preserve, it shows the category of Outstanding Natural Element and it identifies Baracoa, the first Spanish settlement in Cuba.

Its highest altitude above sea level is 575m, it is 1125m long and has a total area of 461000 square metres.

This tableland is of important aesthetic and natural value, here are remarkable singular landscape value and of fauna.

The vegetation of Mogotes where the Royal Palm and the Cocotrinax Yunquensis stand out.

Also stand out trees maderables like the Mahogany, Majagua, Cedar and Ocuje and fruit-bearing as Mango, Orange and Mammee, they are abundant the Irises and great quantity of Ferns.

The fauna, rich and varied, offers the possibility to observe endemic birds as the Carpenter, the Cuban Tody, the Cuban Trogon, Parrots, Cateyes and Hummingbirds. To this list different types of reptiles and mollusks like the Polimita.
